Did you know that your favourite machine played a role in the emancipation of women? Once bikes came along, women no longer needed men to drive them around with a horse and buggy, thank you very much. Not only that, once they started riding they also needed to ditch those hot, long-a** dresses that were no good for pedaling. Progress.
“The bicycle has done more to emancipate women than any one thing in the world. I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike…. she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood.” Susan B Anthony
Or how about Gino Bartali? After winning both the Giro D’Italia and the Tour de France, he used his bike during WWII to carry secret messages to the Italian resistance, hiding messages in his frame while out on long ‘training rides’ defying the Nazis and Fascist police.
You already know that bikes can save you money, get you in shape, improve your mood, help you make new friends (or reconnect with old ones), reduce greenhouse gases, and literally transform your community.
Here at Velonorth’s Global Headquarters we believe there is nothing quite like the bicycle, and there’s nothing quite like a ride to clear your mind, super-charge your gratitude, and re-calibrate your perspective.
“The bike will transform anyone who is willing to let it happen.” Ina-Yoko Teuntenberg
And what about a challenging ride? Preceded by a hot coffee and hearty breakfast, and followed by a cosy gathering with friends new and old while swapping stories borne from the dirt and grit of the trail?
Sounds like a pretty good Sunday to us.
The Gravel Growler has just what you need: Ride with friends. Ride solo. Ride whatever you got. Ride hard. Ride easy… just come and ride. Defy the dropping temperature and tell Ol’ Man Winter to wait just a little bit longer.
“The best rides are the ones where you bite off much more than you can chew, and live through it.”Doug Bradbury
Come and bite off a little more than you can chew, then wash it down with a beer on us and our friends at Winterlong Brewing Co.
